Johannes

   Käsbach

Johannes is a guitar player, with main focus on Jazz, funk, acoustical drum‘n‘bass and hard‘n‘heavy elements. Composing music in these fields with complex structure is what he enjoys especially integrating wind sections or string quartets into his music.

Johannes recently (2008-2010) graduated as Master (MSc) in Engineering Acoustics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His field of studies is mainly concerned with human perception (psychophysics or more precise psychoacoustics), signal processing in acoustical applications and physical acoustics. During that time he studied in parallel at the Rytmisk Center in Copenhagen and was participating in a sound engineering course at the Royal Academy of Music Denmark (DKDM) (see pitch matching project).

Before moving to Copenhagen in 2008 he studied Jazz-guitar at the Conservatory of Hamburg (2007-2008), where he played in the Kons-Band (see suite project). The alternation and combination of music and engineering is a path through his entire life, so that his studies of Jazz were a logical consequence for him after his Bachelor (BSc) degree in General Engineering Science with specialisation in Mechatronics at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (2003-2007) and his job as research assist for active-noise control (ANC) at the Helmut-Schmidt University Hamburg (2007-2008). During his technical studies he played in a funk-band called Big Bossa whilst also experimenting in several projects (see saimaa project).

Leap in time: Growing up...

Johannes (born 1984) grew up in a small town close to Cologne in Germany, namely Wermelskirchen. Always fascinated by music, technics and human concerns, he developed his musical skills on the violin (1989-1999) after a musical pre-education. He was educated on the violin at the domestic music school and later at the music school in Remscheid (1999-2003). With an early tendency of writing his own music already in the age of eight years he used his brothers piano and keyboard to live creativity. With his first computer he started exploring first approaches of sequencers such as „Fasttracker“ with his childhood friend "Skymanic". They are still in good contact with each other and will release some tracks under the name chilldrenaline in 2011. As teenager Johannes played several years in a string quartet at the music school in Remscheid. During high-school rock-music became of course more important, so that he started taking lessons in electrical guitar playing (2000), also in Remscheid. During these years the alternative rock-band killtimmy was formed. Johannes finished school (2003), where his friend Thomas Preyer had a big influence on him concerning literary interests. The next part of his journey began with moving to Hamburg in the same year...
